Questions and answers
Below is a brief outline of some questions people have about the NewUniverse Web Directory Project:
Can I practise anywhere?
Yes. Use the SandBox, but don't save the page unless you really want to keep it.
Can I add anything I want to my page?
Within reason. Obviously you shouldn't add racist or offensive language, nor should you say anything you can't back-up. Remember libel and slander still apply on the web. Stick to what you know, and encourage others to contribute via the edit tag on your page.
Do I need to be an expert to build a page, like on Wikipedia?
No! Of course not. We want a directory of all things, not an encyclopedia. We encourage New Theories and ideas, however outreageous they might seem. We want people to boast about their websites and generally have fun.
Do other people keep changing and deleting my content?
They can, but that's what a Wiki is about. However, we know it can be annoying; you spend time building a page, someone else changes it, so what's the point? Therefore we offer free templates so you can post your work on your site, and retain the content.
Does any of this cost anything?
No, of course not. It's all free.
Who owns the Copyright on this material
Unless a page is locked or it states otherwise, then the GNU licence applys
Does adding a page get me extra ranking with a search engine?
Yes. But more importantly it brings together people with the same interests, and so you can link to each other via your own websites, which increases your ranking still further. Also, because you're on a big site, providing you've provided a link, visitors can just click through to your site.
Can I add a page about myself?
If you want, but make sure you give it a meaningful title. What you call your page will be what appears in the title tags, so think what people are likely to type into a search engine.
Can I publish my Essay or Book here?
We'd prefer a synopsis and a link to your site. Encourage others to read it, and then offer a critique on your page. Tell us what your book is about; how the story unfurls. But if it's a short essay, you could publish that.
